What Makes TSU Homecoming Unlike Any Other
Every HBCU has a homecoming. TSU's stands apart for three reasons.
First, Texas Southern University itself. Founded in 1927, TSU has produced a Congresswoman who reshaped American politics in Barbara Jordan, an NFL Hall of Famer and television icon in Michael Strahan, a Grammy-winning gospel legend in Yolanda Adams, and a Grammy-winning global superstar in Megan Thee Stallion. The History: Texas Southern University & Its Legendary Homecoming
Texas Southern University was founded on March 7, 1927, originally as Houston Colored Junior College, at a time when Black Houstonians had virtually no access to public higher education. In 1947, the state of Texas hastily created "Texas State University for Negroes" — largely to avoid integrating the University of Texas Law School in the wake of the landmark Sweatt v. Painter case. The Ocean of Soul marching band was established in 1969 by Benjamin J.
