Essence Festival of Culture 2026

The world’s largest gathering of Black music, culture, and empowerment. The Essence Festival draws over 500,000 attendees to New Orleans each year for four nights of headline performances at the Superdome, plus daytime empowerment sessions, a beauty and wellness expo, and the best food in America. One Music Fest Atlanta 2026

Atlanta’s premier outdoor music festival celebrating the best in R&B, hip-hop, neo-soul, and Afrobeats. One Music Fest has become the defining festival of Atlanta’s extraordinary Black cultural moment, drawing artists and audiences from across the diaspora.
Lagos Jazz Festival 2026
When: October | Where: Lagos, Nigeria
West Africa’s premier jazz celebration, held annually in one of Africa’s most dynamic and exciting cities. Lagos Jazz Festival brings together the best of African jazz alongside international artists for a weekend of world-class music in one of the world’s most vibrant cultural capitals.
Afrochella 2026
When: December | Where: Accra, Ghana
One of the most exciting cultural events on the African continent, Afrochella celebrates African creativity, fashion, music, and art in the heart of Accra. Held annually during Ghana’s legendary Detty December season, Afrochella is the perfect capstone to a Ghana travel experience.
Carnivals and Cultural Celebrations
Trinidad Carnival 2026
When: February/March | Where: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
The mother of all carnivals. Trinidad Carnival is the original, the blueprint, and still the greatest carnival experience on earth. Notting Hill Carnival 2026

Europe’s largest street festival and the UK’s most spectacular celebration of Caribbean culture. Over two million people line the streets of West London for two days of mas bands, sound systems, jerk chicken, and one of the greatest street parties in the world. Free to attend.
Miami Broward Carnival 2026
When: October | Where: Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Florida
South Florida’s premier Caribbean carnival, bringing the mas and soca energy of the islands to the streets of Miami. The culminating road march is one of the most spectacular events in the Caribbean American calendar.
Crop Over Festival 2026
When: July–August | Where: Bridgetown, Barbados
Barbados’s legendary harvest festival, rooted in African tradition, culminates in the spectacular Grand Kadooment Day parade. Crop Over is one of the most authentic and joyful carnival experiences in the Caribbean — smaller and more intimate than Trinidad, with a warmth and community spirit that is uniquely Barbadian.
Junkanoo Summer Festival 2026
When: July | Where: Nassau, Bahamas
The Bahamas’s most distinctive cultural celebration — a parade of elaborate costumes, goatskin drums, cowbells, and whistles that traces its roots directly to African traditions maintained by enslaved Bahamians. Junkanoo is unlike any other festival in the Caribbean.
Juneteenth and Heritage Events
Juneteenth National Celebrations 2026

Juneteenth — the national holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States — is now one of the most significant dates in the Black American cultural calendar. Africa Day Celebrations 2026

Africa Day commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. Celebrated across the African continent and in diaspora communities worldwide, Africa Day events feature music, food, cultural exhibitions, and a celebration of pan-African unity and pride.
HBCU Events
HBCU Homecoming Season 2026
When: September–November | Where: Nationwide, USA
HBCU homecoming season is one of the greatest cultural events in Black American life. The combination of football, step shows, battle of the bands, tailgating, and the reunion of Black excellence that defines HBCU homecoming is unlike anything else in American culture. The biggest draws include Howard University Homecoming (Washington DC), Florida A&M University Homecoming (Tallahassee), Morehouse/Spelman Homecoming (Atlanta), and Grambling vs. Southern (the Southern Heritage Classic in Jackson, Mississippi).
Bayou Classic 2026
When: November | Where: New Orleans, Louisiana
The annual football game between Grambling State University and Southern University — one of the oldest and most celebrated HBCU rivalries in the country. The Bayou Classic weekend in New Orleans combines world-class football with a parade, a battle of the bands, and the incomparable hospitality of the city’s Black community.

Invest Fest 2026
When: August | Where: Atlanta, Georgia
Founded by financial educator Earn Your Leisure, Invest Fest has become the largest Black financial and investment conference in the United States. Over 30,000 attendees gather in Atlanta for panels, workshops, networking, and conversations about building Black wealth. Essential for the BTN community’s business traveler.
Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit 2026

Black Enterprise’s premier entrepreneurship conference, bringing together Black business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs for three days of inspiration, networking, and deal-making. One of the most important events in the Black business calendar.

Urbanworld Film Festival 2026

The world’s largest competitive film festival for diverse content and filmmakers. Urbanworld celebrates Black storytelling in film across features, documentaries, and short films, with panels, networking events, and screenings that draw the best of Black Hollywood and independent film.
Pan African Film Festival 2026

The largest Black film festival in the United States, celebrating African and diaspora cinema for over 30 years. PAFF screenings, workshops, and events are an essential part of the Black LA cultural calendar during Black History Month.
Art Basel Miami Beach 2026

The world’s premier art fair, with a significant and growing presence of Black artists, galleries, and collectors.
